Lifeguarding
Surf Lifeguard and Patrol Support
Surf Lifeguards have been patrolling Ocean Beach since 1965 and since then has provided a summer weekend surf patrol. We currently have 70 qualified lifeguards and patrol supporters who patrol the beach from the end of November to the middle of March each year. We ask that everybody does a minimum of 4 days per season. Volunteering as a Surf Lifeguard or Patrol Support is fun and rewarding – you’ll make a real difference in people’s lives and have a great time along the way.

Hours
Volunteers from Ocean Beach Kiwi patrol on weekends and public holidays during the warmer months of the year. Our hours are Saturday 12:00 until 17:00 and Sunday 10:00 until 17:00. During the school holidays Central Region SLSNZ employ paid guards to patrol Monday to Friday.
Patrols and Rostering
Our club use a sports team app called Heja rather than a roster system and allocated patrols. We select what days we are available to patrol. This way, we can work around personal, school and university commitments, the surf sport, education and local event guarding calendars as well. Family members, friends or team mates can patrol together should they choose too.
